Forever Fashion: STEMathon 2023

Hey folks, we’re back at it again with the STEMathon! Just like I promised after the STEMathon 2022, I was back again at the (virtual) First Robotics Canada Girls & Allies STEMathon. This year’s theme was…The Road to Net Zero: And how do we get there?

What did our group do? Well, we came up with the concept of Forever Fashion where “Change your wear, keep the Change”

The Project & The Process

Our Problem Statement: The social phenomenon of “fast fashion” leads to the overproduction of clothing by major companies, resulting in very high CO2 emissions.

Our Goal: To halt the constant production of clothes that directly leads to excessive clothing waste, by allowing consumers to upcycle their clothes by having them altered and tailored.

How: Forever Fashion achieves this by partnering up with local universities and colleges that have students who are pursuing fashion and are working with clothes. These students will be given clothes from our clients who are looking for a change in their wardrobe and style, or who want their clothes tailored. After the changes are made, customers have the choice to keep or donate the upcycled clothes. Since this whole process will be free, the university’s students will, in exchange, receive valuable practical experience.

Here’s a CAD software made design of our prototype:

Not A Win, but A Success Nonetheless!

Unlike last year, we didn’t win any prizes.

(although Gabby, our amazing mentor last year, ended up having her new team win a Best Project Award! Her brainstorming methods must still have as sharp as ever)

Am I upset? Not really. While it would’ve been great to win a prize, I am perfectly satisfied with the beautiful memories I ‘won’ over the course of the competition.

one of my teammates (who happens to be my partner of one of my current projects, a Sumo Bot, so be on the lookout for that!) spent almost an entire night of the competition making this website for our showcase. I’m so proud of her: https://stemathonteam4.weebly.com/
